betta not eating

i got a betta 3 days ago. the first day he was eating fine. but now he just spits it out of his mouth. is it the food or is he just being picky. im using Aqua Culture betta pellet food. im gonna pick up some freeze dried blood worms later today.

also i have him in a 20 gal. with 8 black skirt tetras. they seem to get along. i wanna add some neon tetras would this make it to crowded for the betta?

you could prob add a few neons, like 5.
every betta has a different personality. one of my bettas just absolutly LOVES me, the other gets scared the moment i come within 5 feet of his bowl. so it depends on the betta

Betta Bio gold pellets are great, the worms are more for a treat and not a daily food.

Everyone of my bettas I have had has done that it's like it's normal. Every food I give him he does it to. The betta should eventually eat some pieces well at least all my bettas did each one lived for a long time.

ya it is common my betta does it to every now and then try switching up his diet through the week

If he's in with the other fish, does he eat their flakes? If he'll eat flakes, he doesn't really even need betta food.

maybe try holding off on feeding say for 2 days then try again with an other food pellet.

they can go a week with no food. tuff critters

thnx for everything guy. for some reason he went psycho on me and killed a tetra so i have him in a 10gal now. he seems ALOT more active now.

My female is a messy eater, eating flakes and then spitting them out. She does this again and again and I assume some of it staying in.

try another type of food for her then.

I have bloodworms, only as a treat; shrimp pellets and cichlid flakes. Next time I go to the lfs I'll check out what else they have.

I wouldn't want to over feed the others.

prolly just see how she does and if she needs something else then feed her that. or jsut keep doing what your doing with the flakes

Why are you feeding cichlid flakes to tetras and such? She might not like them if they have a high algae/plant content... bettas are carnivores.

The cichlid flakes are left overs from a time period of keeping cichlids. So far I haven't been feeding those flakes to anyone, but haven't decided to throw them out yet either.

I give Pinky Bio-Gold and a Omega Flake daily and break up his diet with some worms or daphina once a week (he loves thems to pieces)
