Well in there natural habitat they live in rice patties which has no current. And in my tanks i never see them sitting in front of the filter current. So if you already have the filter put it on and judge yourself if there is too much current, but make sure there are some slow current spots or else you will prolly just see him sitting there all the time. So if its just a 2 gallon tank i dont really think it needs a filter, well maybe a sponge but nothing is gunna beat water changes in that 2 gallon. Good luck!

i must disagree.my bettas do fine in an eclipse explorer and i find it to be far superior to other betta tanks.just put a few java ferns in front of the return to block the flow and there you have it.one filtered tank one happy betta.and for the record my betas love a current in their tank.it helps them to get exercise that they can't get in a bowl.

I think I'll agree with Catfishmike on this one...I have a five gallon tank with a fairly strong filter and my little betta boy is always sitting near the filter outlet...he just wiggles with the current :) also, as long as there are a few places for him to go in in the event that we wants to get away he should be just fine and dandy...I would say go for it...
