Betta, sick or just imperfect?

#1
I bought a pretty green betta on impulse to go along with my red and blue ones. (alongside not along with) I've notived that on one side of the fish there are some patches of scales that are at a slightly different angle than the rest of the scales. They have not changed at all over a two week period and the fish seems healthy in all other aspects. Could this be disease or just a genetic imperfection?

The good side.

The bad side. Notice the patches of rough scales.

That's kind of what I'm thinking, because it hasn't changed at all. It seems hard to believe I missed it when I bought him but I picked up so many cups that I must have decided on him looking at his "good" side. If its a scar I can live with that. He's a great looking fish besides that, I would just like to let him get out of the vase he's in and socialize with some other fish in a larger tank. I don't want to risk infection though. Anyone else got an opinion?

See if it goes away in a couple of months, it may just be a bruise from being held in the store.  Often bettas will slam themselves against the sides of containers trying to fight with their neghbors.  Keep it in the vase for the meantime, hate to risk an infection on such a nice looking fish.
