My betta Pig has had a very strange, transient disease for the last 6+ months. At first I thought it was Ich, then Fungus...now its REALLY starting to look like Hexamita. It would go away completley making me think that the med I was using was the right one and then come back...worse each time. I've been trying to get a pic, but it really just doesn't show up.
He's got an area of swelling on the side of his head, just behind his eye. It looks like he's got fluid under his scales. Then there are 2 pinholes (that I can see into) in the swelling, that will fill up with white goo about every other day. He's been treated with Fungus clear, and BettaMax with no change except that the white goo will go away...but then come back not long after. This pinholes and the swelling are new in the last week. Before this he would just get a few spots around his head...thus the reason why i thought Ich first and then fungus.
Does this sound like Hexamita? Did he come with it? Is it contagious? Can other fish carry it without showing symptoms? Will an Anti-parasite combo-med be enough to treat it...or should i go with straight metrondiazole?
Pig himself is fine...he eats, he dances, he flares. If he didn't have the spots, I wouldn't think there was anything wrong with him...except that his tail has been ragged thru all this too...and I know that is a symptom as well.
He does have 2 cory tankmates...should I dip them in salt (or I still have some Aquatronics Dip-A-Way) and get them out of the tank...or treat them too?
