I currently have a betta in a 3 gallon by himself. I was hoping to put a few corys in with him (probably four) and was curious if people thought this would be ok...it seems like it wouldnt be a problem to me except for perhaps the corys would need more room on the bottom of the tank

other options might be danios or neon tetras if they are compatable...as well as a oto

the reason for all this movement is that my ten gallon (present home of said fish) is being revamped for shell dwellers adn they need homes...i could dump them all in the 29gal community but im thinking i would like to give the betta some buddies if it is feasable

Hmm, if it were me, I would only put in 2-3 cories, an oto, and the betta, but it should be fine. However, have a back up plan just in case. Some bettas don't mind the company, some can't stand it, just be sure you have someplace to put something incase it doesn't work out.

With my own experience with Morley, my betta, I have to say this is a bad plan. However, I have been told that I have an abnormally agressive fish. He began in a 20g community tank with some tetras, and soon proved he could not play nice. He was removed to a two gallon with a chinese algae eater, who he later killed. So he lives all by himself in the two gallon. Be careful, you wouldn't like to find that your cories arereally just big, live betta food!

I had a betta live with neons corys and otos dianos 2 angelfish and a few others that I can't remember for almost four years til he died. You'd just have to try it just put your fish you want to transfer in a net and if the betta trys to attack then don't put them in.

It all depends upon the personallity of your individual fish.

As you can see, for some it has worked. For others it has not.

My betta currently lives in six gallons with two cories. He's lived like that all his life. If he gives the cories a passing glance, that's the most damage he's ever done to them.

I've kept bettas with otos, with cories, with white clouds, with little tetras, and with SAEs in a wide variety of tank sizes. It has worked for me. For others, the combinations have not.

In three gallons of water though, I would only recommend the one betta and two cories. If you take proper care of the tank, you shouldn't have algae and therefore no need for an oto. Three gallons is not a whole lot of water, so you won't be able to cram a whole lot of fish in there without the betta feeling crowded. Fish that feel crammed will get nippy, and even the most docile of neon will pick on a betta's fins. If you wish to try your betta with a small school of white clouds or with a larger school of cories, I would say go with five to ten gallons.
