Bettas and breeding

I've got a 2.5 gallon that currently has babies in it but i'm thinkin a betta would be ok to put into it someday, Is this tank an alright size to breed bettas? And one other question, i heard you have to remove the female after she lays eggs, is this because the male will kill her?

Looks complicated, if i do it, ill wait till i get the propar materials such as spare tanks for babies
