Bettas with Eye Cloud...

Apparently my tanks have the curse of the eye cloud.
any new betta i introduce gets eye cloud in one of its eyes within the first few days...I now have three bettas each with eye cloud in one of their eyes. the first betta to get cloudy eye was my teal female, who now looks a little better, and the eye uis starting to clear up. however my newest bettas got it pretty bad :(

What could be the cause?
My tanks have always had 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites as well as nitrates that stay below 10ppm. so the water is clean.
Its very odd becuase ive read that eye cloud can emerge from dirty water conditions..

Secondly i see that eye cloud can be from a vitamin A deficiency... i feed my bettas hickari betta gold pellets and brine shrimp (in its FD and frozen forms) and frozen blood worm... where is teh vitamin deficiency coming from and what food is rich in vitamin A? also could eye cloud be from frozen blood worms? they are frozen...so i thought they wouldnt carry disease =/

Lastly It could always be stress, and i've tried to minimize that when introducing them into the tanks... still they all got it. The pH in my tanks is a little high (7.6 ) but that shouldnt shock them too much right? also the water is a bit hard in terms of GH (26dGH) but i just dont get how water hardness can do that...

Some other causes that i can think of are the bright lights in my tanks. in my 40 with one betta, i have 2.1 wpg with bright T-5s and in my 10 gal with two females i have 4.8 wpg with T-5s. funny thing is the betta in the 40 gallon is suffering from it the most =/ and thats not very bright light compared to the other. boggles my mind.
Also a bacterial infection?flukes? they dont affect any of my other fish...so maybe weakened immune systems from transporting could be the culprits in the bettas?

As far as treatment, ive never treated any diseases with meds, and i prefer to stay with salt, higher temps and with indian almond leaves. i run these in all my tanks...

So guys/girls help me out here, what sounds like the cause of this and and whats the best remedy? (is it just time with my current treatment? that seems to help the teal female)

thanks for all your time.

Wow, Newman. I am just as stumped as you are. I don't think it's the water quality...mainly because I know my water quality sucks (even in my established, long-running tanks) and my bettas are pretty much okay. It *might* be the bloodworms, but that seems a little bit of a reach. None of mine like bloodworms (frozen or freeze-dried), so I don't know. The stress could be the cause...have you noticed that they're picked on by the other fish at all? Well, have you noticed if your male is (since he's the only one in with anything that could bother him)? I don't know about it being the lighting, either. I have all sorts of different lights in my tanks (the two 2.5gal hexs have just regular incandescents 'cuz that's all they'll take, the Hex5 is running the flourescent that comes with that tank, the 10gal doesn't have a light right now 'cuz the bulb burnt out and I haven't been able to replace it yet, but it was just whatever comes with a normal 10gal hood, and I'm actually not sure what's running on the 45gal right now, all I know is that it is flourescent and it's whatever came with the hood), and none of my bettas have issues with it. I would think just giving it time to clear up would be the best option. How long have they had the eye cloud?

Are you drip acclimating the fish? It's always a good idea to make their transition less stressful.

Bettas will sometimes bump into things. If you have any sharp plastic plants or ornaments, that could cause it.

Another possibility is eye flukes.

A vitamin deficiency would take weeks/months to show up, so I doubt it's that.

thanks people. the teal female has had it for 2 weeks and the new pair for 2 days. i do think its stress. nothing plastic or sharp in my tanks. ima move the teal one to my 40 so that the 2 girls will stop fighting in my 10. one female will stay in the 10. the male in the 40 will go into a half-full 5 gal, once its done cycling.

and how should i get rid of these eye flukes (or tell whether its caused by the little buggers?) im doing the salt treatment and using the almond leaves... should be good enough right? im really uneasy about meds especially when fish are already stressed and weak...

looks like one of my female bettas escaped having eye cloud for the time being, but one female and especially the male betta are still stuck with this strange disease. Its a bit difficult to tell if they're improving any... their eyes still look cloudy and a bit different from their clear eye...

If it is a parasite or bacterial infection, will it just go away with time as long as i keep treating with salt, higher temp and the indian almond leaves?
