Wanted to share my first experience with Big Al's.

I am all for supporting my local shops. I have an Ace Hardware that I frequent when I can instead of the Home Cheapo that went in. I don't want the little guy to disappear.

My LFS is Petsmart. There are 2 other tropical fish stores (right next to each other, strange) about 40 minutes away but they do not have the selection of Petsmart.

I purchased a new 46g tank and stand at Petsmart. But the prices for filters, etc.. was insane. An Emporer 400 is about $85, same for the H.O.T. Magnum.

So I checked Big Al's and was amazed at the price difference, about half of Petsmart and the other LFS here.

This is what I ordered:


Emporer 400 $36.99

Emporer media 4 pak $8.49, ordered 2 at this price.

HOT Magnum 250 $39.99

H.O.T. Magnum foam sleeve- 3-pack - $4.99, ordered 2 at this price.

Magnum Power Kleen $9.99

EBO-JAGER Heater TS 200 WATT $17.99. I only needed 1 but I ordered 2 so I have a backup.

I found out that the Emporer 400 is really $39.99 but the web site was wrong. Paula, who took my order, honored the lower price, very cool.

I cannot find the Ebo-Jager any where around here. But if I bought the Emporer, Magnum and the media local it would have been about $220. Add $40 for 2 heaters and its about $260. Then add about $20 in taxes and its $280.

As it is I paid $160.86 total for everything including shipping from Big Al's.

Quite a savings.

Just placed my first oder with BigAls yesterday. Finally getting my Ebo-Jager heaters. They seem to be very highly recommended on this site and no one carries them around me so I figurted what the heck.

The price I'm paying for 2- 150 watt heaters plus shipping is less than I paid for my current 150 from my LFS. Al is my new best friend.

BigAl's has the best pricing on fish supplies, if not, they will beat it. Plus they warranty there goods with a no-hassle warranty. Used them twice, once for a jamming head unit on my Ehiem 2028 and my red sea wave maker that quit on pump 2 output. They shipped the new parts to me without a hitch or question. I highly recommend them for all your supplies.

Big Als is awesome. Someone stole a $40 order off of my front porch.

After waiting two weeks for an order, I called Big Als and told them it never arrived. They traced it with the shipping company and they confirmed they delivered it so it had to have been stolen.

A week later, someone from Big Al's called me and told me they were sending out a replacement order free of charge.

They are my hero.

And my fishies hero too :)*celebrate

I can! I live about 15minutes from their fulfilment center in Niagara Falls. I get next day shipping for the regular price. I haven't checked into local pickup (doubt it though) but I will when I place my next order. I'll be ordering stuff for my new saltwater reef tank!

Follow up

I recieved my order the other day.

It took 7 days for UPS to get it here to so ca, just what Big Al's said it would. They gave me a tracking number so I could see when it got delivered to my mail drop.

9 items, nicely packed, no damage. Included was an invoice and a Big Al's Preferred Customer card.

Two big thumbs up :)
