YES! lol that is one of the only bacteria starters that a lot of us have had success with. Unfortunately there aren't many lfs around who carry it!! It seems a bit expensive...but can seriously cut down on cycling time. DOESN"T ALWAYS WORK...if you can check the expiration date on the package...or ask the lfs if you can get the freshest package they have :)

It's the only legitimate bacterial catalyst being sold. I have used it and it works awesome. Your tank will be cycled in 2-5 days after adding it. I've have only heard positive responses from people who have used BioSpira®. Froggyfox says it doesn't always work - well, that could be true if it is not promptly refrigerated after transport (it comes packed with dry ice when shipped directly to distributors). If the distributor were to neglect a box of BioSpira® and allow the dry ice to evaporate - then sure - it wouldn't be long before the bacteria would come out of stasis and starve. Also, if the LFS carrying it lost power for a day or so that could affect the efficacy of BioSpira®. All in all I'd guess that wouldn't be likely though.

Pyackel I just had to add that in because nothing works all the time :) There was someone just the other day on fishman's bacteria starter thread who was saying they used bio-spira and it didn't work. Overall everyone I've talked to has had great results with it.

I hear ya. That's why I gave reasons as to why it may not work. As for Guppy Guy's experience (on the Bacteria Starter Test thread) - he simply hasn't waited 5 days yet - so we'll have to wait and see.

Hey N©KI what was the ammonia level in your aquarium when you added cycle? I'm doing a test right now with cycle and so far it appears to be speeding up the cycle process. It's nowhere near the time that Bio Spirra appears to be but it can help if you can't get Bio Spirra.

Hey pyackel do you get a comission selling for Marineland or something? You always seem to be the first person to comment on Bio Spirra :)

LOL. Naw - I just know how well it works through my own experience with it. All the other brands make you scratch your head in wonderment as to their effectiveness since they take weeks. Not to mention the fact that they aren't even using the right bacteria for nitrite respiration. It has been found that Nitrospira, (not Nitrobacter which is what Cycle® uses for their nitrite respiring bacteria) is the only bacteria that thrives sufficiently in an aquarium to perform nitrite to nitrate conversion. Even if the bacteria in Cycle® could survive without refrigeration (which I cannot see how it can) the only bacterial culture that would be of any use would be the Nitrosomonas. But Nitrosomonas reproduces considerably fast when compared to Nitrospira or Nitrobacter. Thus, any time reduction in the entire nitrification cycle would only be by a small margin.
