u can try but u'll probally not get the effect u expected, if ur decorations have flourescent colors it'll shine but other than that barely noticable, same with gravel if it's dark it won't show on the black light but light like white would give a blue glow my cuz tried that with his 70 gal tank when he put just community fish one was the painted glassfish and well only paint showed on the fish which made it look even worse b/c it actually looked artificial, i've seen a cool black light tank in a lfs near my grandmas house and it was pretty cool but unless ur on acid it's not that interesting looked like something in the back of Spencers Gift storewith all the black light stuff  u'll hardly see the fish in just a black light setup even if u don't like theblack light effect u can just use the light in ur room

The blue glow is produced by metal hylides or compact flourescents not regular lights.  Most of the animals under those lights are primarily marine corals and invertibrates that glow due to the reflective nature of the chemicals within their bodies and the prismatic effect of their mucus coverings.  The only time I've ever seen fresh water fish glow (such as neons or the irridecents on some SA cichlids) is under dim, half-lit conditions and if they are truely in the most magnificant state of health.

I dunno how that would look in a freshwater tank, unless you have lots of white fish.  On  a saltwater tank on the otherhand, I bet that could look really good.  You might also be able to find contaminants in the water using one like those exposés on hotels they show on 20/20.  Just a thought, I've never tried it so I dunno how well it works.

well I'm gonna try it, I'm gonna have white sand in my tank, (first time using sand in a tank) and I'll see how that look's. plus I'm gonna try and get a betta with as much white on him as possible. but then again they do change color sometimes..
