I think my albino oscar went blind. I have had this oscar for about 4 months and he was very healthy. the last few weeks i have noticed he will be swimming and then bump into things, but its not like hes ramming into them. when its time to eat he will come to the top with the other o and a jd, but when i drop the food in he has trouble grabing the food, sometimes it even hits him in the head. He has lost some weight and im getting worried. is this common in albinos? has anyone else expeirenced this? and is there any thing i can do to help?

I dont know how common it is in fish, but I do know that in other animals that are albino, other health problems arise that are not normaly seen.

When an albino is born, it has taken the resesive genes of the parents to get its coloring. With the passing of these resesive genes, other rececive genes are alto passed along to the offspring. Many of the rececive genes are what causes these illnesses and other defects.

Like I said, I dont know how common it is in fish, but I would say it is a great possibility. If it is having trouble getting food, then you could concider putting him in its own tank so there is no other competition for food. You will be surprised by how resoucefull they can be.

There is always the possibility of something else that is hurting the fish and causing the weight loss. Other than what you mentioned above, have you noticed any other strange or unusual behavior? What size tank are these fish in, and what are the water params? (Ph, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia)
