I hear that a lot of people are against blood parrots just because they are a man-made hybrid. Is there anything wrong with keeping them? I think they're pretty cool. Not sure why people are against them.

People are against them because the "blood" parrots are dyed. This involves the fish being injected with dye, and they are often in very poor health when you buy them. I have even seen parrots with words injected into them. If you buy these fish you are just supporting the people that dye them. They also get very big and ive heard they are really aggressive.

A lot of these fish are dyed into "jellybean parrots." They should not be dark red, blue, pink, purple, green, or bright yellow. The natural color is a kind of goldfish orange, with some having some darker markings. Lots of people in the hobby don't think fish should be hybridized and are against them on principal. If you look at the fish, they have been bred so that they can't completely close their mouths and they hang open all of the time. Some even have trouble eating. I have heard of some that can be aggressive, obviously they're cichlids and need to be kept in the proper conditions. Not for your general community tank.

I'm against them because they're deliberately mutated and very often deliberately mutiliated more than because they're hybrids. I don't understand why with SO many naturally-occuring cichlid species out there, anyone could possibly want these mutated little freaks (lol sorry to those of you who keep them, nothing personal). They run way too rampant in the hobby, and completely are NOT an accurate representation of the cichlid family IMO.
