Bloodfin Tetra problems

#1
I have a 6 week old 20gallon high tank with an eclipse2 hood that 3 weeks ago I added 4 bloodfin tetras as my starter fish. Up until yesterday, they were great to watch, they played out in the open by themselves and with each other. The past 2 days, they have done nothing but hidden in the plants (and they hide real well). It took me feeding them for me to actually see them today. (I was told only to feed them every other day). Is this typical behavor for these fish or could this be a sign of a possible problem?

I have a school of bloodfins and they seem to be a little timid and like to hide. But it may be the sign of deteriorating water conditions. Try a water change and you can feed them everyday. Skipping a day only helps by limiting the excessive waste they produce or that you overfeed. So just feed them everyday and keep up on ur water changes. So did i answer all your questions? Ask me whatever, bloodfins were the fish i started this hobby with anyways so id be glad to answer any questions.

Well its a 20g tank so you can easily fit say 10 more fish. But first is the tank cycled? If so i would add, 5-6 harlequin rasboros because they are real active fish and might even lighten up your bloodfins so they wont be so timid. And then a little school of any cory because they are cool, pretty fun to watch, and eat any uneaten food on the tank floor. But dont get them and just let them eat scraps, get them some sinking waffers or tablets so they can get a decent meal 2 - 3 times a week. But i feed mine a tablet every day.

So then if you got a school of 3-4 corys that would be.
4 Bloodfins, 6 harlequins and 4 corys. So then what I would maybe do is get some cardinals to add some color to your tank. Thats my opinion but remember its all up to you. Tell us what stock your tank with alright? Good luck

Well i have spotted corys and they used to swim around all the time but now they hide all the time. Dunno im stumped why they hide but i know its not water conditions. So i wouldnt get them and also they get pretty big to say 3 inches. And the CAE in my 10g is a chinease algea eater. He likes to hide in his castle i got him. They get up to 15 inches i guess and i didnt know this when i get him. So i guess mine has a stunted growth at about 5 inches. So i would avoid a CAE. If you want to add 1-2 ottos to control algea that would be a good idea since they stay small.
So for a cory the choice is up to you, if you can find pygmy corys get those because they stay small like under a inch and then you could get a good sized school of them becuase they stay so small. So other then that check out all the species and make your decision. A good refrence for profiles and a good message board would be : Fish Profiles .
Now its all up to you.
