ok so i bought frozen bloodworms today and i feed one block to my cichlid tank. when they eventually ate it all my powder blue got a little big around teh stomach area. i never seen him so big is this a sign of anything bad?
Feeding bloodworms regularly to Malawi Cichlids can be bad, and deadly. MalawiBloat will strike because of to much protien. However i have been known to give it to them as a treat sometimes.
The bulge of their stomachs might just be their fullness. My discus always got like this when they ate bloodworms.
did you just drop a cube in? that will dirty your water fast, and they might eat too much. i let mine defrost, and then feed one at a time. that is for much smaller fish though. LOL you could proably do more than one at a time.
yea i just dropped it in. it was my first time buying frozen bloodworms. this mournin he is fine so i guess he was full. so how often should i feed them bloodworms? i feed them flakes as a staple.
Not often. As C-man said, to much protien in the diet of mbuna can cause Malawi Bloat, something that is almost always fatal, but so very easy to prevent.
