My saulosi male and female...he's a little ugly, lol, so I'm hoping that the males in the group of juvies I have will mature a little prettier.

nice sinister!
are u sure that female is really a female? have they bred? My male saulosi always started off like your female. It also looks like to be developing an egg-spot and also theres a faint stripe between her eyes (which is what male saulosi have)
It could just be me but i think it could be a beginning of another male because thats how my males started out and i thought i had 2 males 4 females but now i have 4 males 2 females :(

Well, you're both half-right. Typically, sexing mbuna using egg spots is useless, as most females have them as well. However, when it comes to saulosi, MOST females actually don't have them, so it can be used with a little more accuracy than most species. But female saulosi have been known to get the occasional spot too.

But yes, I'm positive she's a female. I have 30 of her month-old fry in a growout, and the juveniles that I'm waiting to grow up (they're about 2" now) are her babies as well.
