Blue spot Jewel Cichlid

Hey i bought my first cichlids two (yea two its a bad number for cichlids but they get along fine) blue spot jewel cichild. i was wondering if anybody knew anything about them? are they the same as jewel cichlids( a dollar cheaper then the blue)? they were under the heading of sounth american cichlid but then the jewel cichlid in under the african section. Ive done searches on google but havent been able to find any info. anything would be great thanks alot.

I'm pretty sure they are the same. If you could post a pic, we could really tell. And then we can really get some info flowing.

How big are they?

2 isn't always a bad number for cichlids.

yea they they do look like that. but neither of them have the second spot in the middle of their side. They are about 2.5 inches long(ones alittle longer then the other one) so the pet store had them under the wrong section then i guess. Im trying to get my digi cam to load but its beening a pain the the @n@l fin

That spot could just develop overtime. I've seen some without it also. Well i think maybe they labeled them wrong.....not quite sure.

What size tank?

they are in a ten gallon by themselves at the moment. im planning on setting up my old twenty for them when they get bigger. i was wondering would a pleco work with them?

Yes but it would prob. become to crowded in that tank. Especially during spawning time if you have a pair.

i was thinking of more of a rubber mouth pleco they only get to be about 5 inchs and planning only to keep the two jewels in there . i dont know what the gender is of them. btw thanks for all the help cichlid man

i got a rubber lipped pleco and had him in the tank for a day and a half and noticed a shredded fin so i moved him to my 55g were none of the fishes bother him. i guess they are a breeding pair. do i need to add anything to so that they will breed?(i.e. overturned flower pot)
