Heeeyyyy folks.

I want to get something to "finish off" my tank which has about 8" of spare room left in it. I was considering a pair of Bolivians which I understand grow 3 to 4" and even if they breed will be very peaceful?

Anyone have any experience with this fish?

My tank and inhabitants listed below.

I you tank has space for 8 more inches of fish, i would leave it as it is. u have to concider that all your fish will grow bigger and not stay the same size as what they already are.

If you are going by the 1" per gallon rule..........toss it out the window. You can't acctually use this rule with cichlids because of the sizes and territory.

Rams arn't peaceful and won't bother anyone. It is infact a cichlid, and acts like one when breeding.

I think a pair might be ok with what you have.

All cichlids get at LEAST simi aggressive when breeding. But there are those cichlids that sometimes and develop personalities of their own, so you could very well have peacful rams. But most get simi aggressive when breeding......nothing serious like other large cichlids.

In my experience, Bolivians are very peaceful when not breeding, and when kept in same sex communitites. They can get a bit rowdy with each other when kept with both sexes, but not really mean. Extra space helps, along with adequate cover. I really like these little gems! They shouldn't be too big a trouble with other fish. Any fish that swims slower than the Bolivians might be a problem, but then again, the Bolivians are quite slow in comparision to tetras, and even some live-bearers.

Apistogrammas, like the Agassizzi, are far more mean and territorial than the Bolivian Ram.

I doubt altispinosas would be too stressed about gouramis - they look sideways for territory, not up. You might have a wee bit of friction here between the rams and some cats, but I think you'd likely be ok, as long as there's plenty of cover.

i have never seen too much friction between bolivian rams and cats but the rams do tend to pick at them during feeding time because they both feed in the same areas.my blue ram picks at my corycats and they shrug that off,but blue rams aren't know for being too violent.now the bolivians are a bit larger and could pose a threat if they wanted to.i agree with wayne though.
