I picked up two small Bolivian Rams from a trusted LBS last week, forcing myself to ignore the two gorgeous golden rams in the tank with them. They've been doing great. They colored up nicely, started to exhibit some territorial posturing with the occasional liplock, started to recognize me and come out of their respective lairs to say hi. The LBS assured me that they were taking flake no problem and that I should continue to give it to them. They were eating flake no problems up until maybe two days ago, now they just chew on it and spit it out. My tank has maintained a steady 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 or less nitrate, 80 deg F. I'm feeding them Nutrafin Max. Maybe they just don't like it? I think they're too small (approx. 2-1/4 and 1-3/4 inch) to take any size cichlid pellet. Maybe they're just not hungry and I shouldn't panic?

I've never kept rams but I know my fish eat a lot better when I alternate foods. Now they're chubby little buggers because they eat TOO well.

Have you tries mixing it up? Some frozen worms once or twice a week in with the flake food? A little algae flake/pellet now and then for rougage?
