Is it common for Yoyos and Clown to bicker amongst each other almost daily?

In the Yoyo's case, they're very possessive over their resin castles. If one of the big three has laid claim to a castle, I can expect one of the other two to come along and try and claim that castle for themselves. It's actually amusing to watch as the 'attacker' looks like he's taunting the 'defender'.

It's the Clowns I'm a slightly concerned about. I have two x-large ones, one large, one medium, two small, and one very small clown (biggest are 2 inches long)
The two x-larges always seem to have an disagreement of sorts, probably about who gets to 'lead' the shoal as they're almost exactly the same size. Chunk, my shoal leader, is taller than Slim(other big clown). But Slim is longer than Chunk. Is it normal for them to want to fight often? It's the same with my two small loaches, but they tend to arch and pose at eachother more, than fight. One of the small clowns is a bit of a character ,too, and has earned the name Nipper, because he nips at anyone who is nearby. Harmless, but I've seen it start fights with other clowns. XD

Back to the yoyos. I've often seen my biggest Yoyo chase the big weatherloaches around. He'll get gill to gill with the weatherloach and swim around with it until one or the other breaks off. The 'chase' doesn't last long, and it doesn't look like the Yoyo's biting the Weather at all. Would this be aggressive or play behavior? It's not something I've read about.. The Yoyos do this with eachother, on occasion as well.

One last question. Does anyone know if loaches use a sort of 'sound' to communicate? Like how they click when they eat or fight? When I watch bickering Yoyos, it looks like they're 'barking' at eachother, for lack of better words.

I think part of your problem is not enough space for all your loaches to have their own place. Make sure you have at least 3 caves in there, so everyone can have a cave, otherwise they will bicker.

It's normal for clowns to have little squabbles about who is in charge in the group. It rarely gets dangerous. You may see one or more gray out for a short while.

Yoyos can be a little annoying to other fish, but it's rarely a problem unless the other fish nips back, which won't happen with the weather loaches.

Clowns are well known for their clicking. It's usually either when there's something really tasty in the tank, or they're having a small squabble.

I'd really advise either a larger tank or splitting the loaches into two tanks, for territorial issues. Our loaches are all a lot happier since being moved to tanks with more space for each group.

I have five caves currently. :) ..well.. two are caves, one's a hollow resin log and then there's the small and medium castle which are fought over often by the yoyos. I even buried some small tubes in the gravel, but they kept getting dug up, so I took them out. They really do have hiding preferences though, and the small castle has been bickered over since they were small fish.. though back then, the yoyos liked to share the castle and I didn't have my clowns yet. The biggest yoyo likes the log, though he's often evicted by 7 Clowns and a big weather loach at night. XD

Thanks for the info :D. I shall worry less when I see my big Clowns fighting from now. The only 'damage' I've seen on them is what looks like little scratches on their bodies.. I'm guessing that's from nips and the like? The marks do disappear wityhin a day or so.
I do plan to spilt the yoyos and clowns up.. possibly tomorrow since the dempseys are being taken to LFS. I just need to make sure the tank stats are fine and set up the tank decor.

After I replied to this, I saw your other post about your new tank setup. I'm sure you'll see a lot less problems once the loaches have less competition. Botias are very addictive, and it's hard not to get more! However, it's in their best interest not to have too many groups in a small tank, as they start to get annoyed by the other groups. If possible, have the caves large enough for the whole group
