I have 2 ottos and a Syndontis in my 10 gallon planted tank. For the past couple of weeks i have had them.I have been finding it hard to know when it is a good time to feed them. For the past weeks I have been feeding them 1 algae disk every two days. Is that enough or too much (there is some algae in the tank but they dont seem to like it). Also i need to know were it's a good place to drop the disks. Also lastley I need to know what another good food choice is to give my fish some varity. Any advice will help alot.

Are you feeding them at night? Most bottom feeders are nocturnal as I understand it and won't really actively seek out food when the lights are on. I'm not sure about the Syndontis, I've never had one, but with my ottos in the past, and cory now, I break the wafer in half and drop them at opposite ends of the tank once a day right when I turn off my lights. (My female betta LOVE to steal the Cory's wafers so the one half distracts her while he goes for the other).

The ottos probably won't eat much else (unless you want spirulina flakes or some such, but they won't sink to the bottom). Synodontis will eat sinking shrimp pellets and most anything else that lands on the bottom... they're more or less scavengers.

If you can get a look at their bellies you should be able to tell if they are eating. If they are sunken in then they arent getting enough. Ive found that its best to feed the fish with the lights on and then shut off the lights (when the fish are still eating) and then throw in the food for the bottom guys. :)
