I honestly dont know why people ask if they're bottom dwelling fish that eat poo, because when u think about it, they are just going to poo it out again, then eat it again, and thats not nearly enough nutrients to survive, PLUS its poo! geesh, sorry had to vent!

I agree with Maha. corys are great

well yes of course i know i have to vacuum my gravel but i was just looking for a fish that would kinda keep the dropped food under control a little bit till its time to vacuum the gravel

and i didnt really mean eat the poo i just meant keep the bottom semi clean till vacuum time

and for the cichlids i dont have a cichlid tank its a golden severum which is a cichlid but is extremely peaceful to all the fish in the tank except for the gourami but (only when it comes to his hang out spot that the severum has and the gourami wants lol) but no problems at all

In a 55 with a common pleco your pretty much set for bottom feeders. You may not see the plec come out when food hits the bottom but believe me he is out on patrol as soon as the lights go out.

Eventually he will learn to come n get it when it hits that tank floor but this can take a wile for him to feel comfortable. It may never happen if your tank isn't planted enough to provide plenty of cover for him.

When it comes to nocturnal bottom feeders, most usually you'll almost never see them feed. I have had 2 synodontis unknown catfish for 2 years and have never at any point seen then eat any food. They live with two 19 inch Pacu who are extremley greedy when it comes to food, so in the very begining I was natuarally worried for their well being. Two years later they are still very healthy and plump at nine inches long. But in your case along with feeding just before lights out I wouldn't worry unless you notice the fishes belly sunken inward, a sure sign of undernourishment.
