Yeah I know, good aquarium products... But can you honestly support a company that goes on tv, tells people that keeping a saltwater tank is EASY. Then goes on to show setting up a 5g minibow, with clownfish, tangs, sea horses... All the while forgetting to even mention adding sea salt mix?

Well...sadly no one can come up with a transcript of what exactly was said, and I didn't see it. Its hard to make a judgement on this kind of thing because you don't really know what went on behind the scenes...what cbs thought was irrelevant and cut out of the piece etc. Though, from the responses of people who saw it (on that link to the other forum you posted) it sounds like genuine concern that the tetra spokesperson didn't know what she was talking about.

I don't think I will stop using tetra products over this...but I will be dropping an email to the following addresses. Neither Tetra nor cbs has anything on either of their sites addressing this...and I think that is poor judgement on their part to ignore the consumers who most use their products. Apparantly we haven't made a big enough deal of this to them!

Edit: Oops said "the following addresses" and then forgot to put any on here. The relevant ones I found are:

hank@bcf-m.com
kim@bcf-m.com (both of these addresses are on the tetra website on the "newsroom" feature.
earlyshow@cbs.com (gotten from the thread that AndyL linked to)
consumer@tetra-fish.com (the email address listed on the "contact us" portion of the tetra website. http://www.tetra-fish.com )

I saw the show and it is pretty much as described. It was a 5-10 gallon tank, and they just toss in some fish. I suggest that we all goto the thread and post. Let the saltwater community know that we aren't going to let this happen either. Send your emails and letters to the addresses froggy listed

Well, what a coincidence!!! Just moments after being sent, I get a response:

Thank you for writing to us about Tetra's appearance on the CBS Early Show.

The brevity of the segment prevented us from covering all of the points that we would have liked to cover. Tetra understands that setting up any aquarium is a complicated process and we refer people to responsible sources of information, such as a local retail pet professional or www.tetra-fish.com for more detailed information.

Your point is well taken. I can assure you that we will consider your concerns in all of our future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Tetra Consumer Relations

hmmmm....sounds a lot like the ones that are posted on the site that andyl linked to.....Gee, I'm so glad they took the time to READ it.

Here's a quote from the CBS website...

"With the success of the Disney's summer blockbuster film, "Finding Nemo," tropical fish are now finding themselves as the hot new pet. Carol Huntley-Weber of Tetra Fish Products visited The Saturday Early Show to show the ease of owning and maintaining an aquarium."

Ease and care of owning an maintaining an aquarium.. OMG lol

It can take 6 mo. if you wanna be real perfect about it but you could do it in half that time.

The new hot pet? OH MY GOD. Could you imagine how many kids are starting to go to the pets shops and begging their ig'nant parents to buy them a couple of Nemos! This summer, money gonna get spent and, unfortunately, a lot of Nemos are gonna get flushed down the toilet if somebody doesn't do something :(.

...whatta load:rolleyes: that is the same cookie cutter response that theyve been sending to everyone

did the brevity of the show cause them to squeeze that many fish in to a five gallon tank that they could never survive in...i dont think so, they were just trying to sell minibows by making it seem as though you could have a really interesting salt tank

i believe she also mentioned that fishkeeping is "idiot proof"...too bad CBS and tetra arent:rolleyes:

also notice that link they sent everyone in their response does not have any info on keeping a saltwater tank

i personally will not buy anything from tetra again...they sent their expert to CBS to dupe the public and so they could make $$$...they wont get anymore of mine:mad:

I'm just mad at them for all the changes they have made after they bought out " whisper " filters, subbing cheap & inferior impellers so they break easier & discontinueing the larger packs (24pk.) of filter pads just to name a few....Rich

I got the same cookie-cutter email response Leopardess.

Lizwinz - I too noticed yesterday that tetra's website doesn't offer much helpful fishkeeping information except "buy this product to fix this problem" type things.

I agree that we should "DO" something else...but does anyone have an idea?

Not supporting Tetra, but it will die off...

just like baggy jeans, yo-yos, and all the other fads this will die off. I buy products i believe are worth my money, i mostly buy Hagen stuff because they have a headquarters in Canada, so i support canadain products. Yeh they make some shody products here and there to make a buck but almost every company does. Their websites cant be largely accurate with info but they need to sell to survive and if any companies can trick u, then its not there fault but urs for not doin the research. Tetra did show that crap on tv but have u seen some of the Marineland boxes from their Eclipses tanks, theres on with like 3 yellow tangs, some clowns and various other fish in a 10 gallon i think, i dunno but everybody overexaggerates products. Fish keeping is not a huge market so they avertise smartly, yo seee a nice picture of tank with all those nice fish, u think u can do it and u do. Its just like car wax, u see an amazing Viper, Corvette, Porsche all shining to hell, but urs doesnt come out as nice, or those dinner in a boxes, and all the premaid foood stuff... again im not saying i fully support tetra, i like some of their foods, and i will continue to buy them unless Hagen makes them, but ive taken the media course and alot of companies advertise just as worse as others.
