Check out our thread in the Brackish section about the Brackish cycle. Our question is this. Does Saltwater, or in our case Brackish water use a different type of denitrifying bacteria? Is the bacteria that exists in saltwater to convert ammonia and nitrite different from that found in Saltwater? How do you go about cycling a saltwater tank? Does it differ from Freshwater in any significant way?
Basically it looks to us that when we started adding salt to make our tanks brackish during the cycle, it retards the reproduction of the bacteria to the point where the cycle seems to stagnate, it gets stuck and won't move.
Any ideas?
