Ok, I'm currently getting ready to setup a pond outside. Just wondering, is preping a pond the same as preping a fish tank? I figure I have to do a water cycle before adding any type of fish, but is the water maintaince the same?
How big a pond. If it's less than a hundred gallons then treat it like a tank. If it's a decent size then get some plants in there and use a few fish to start cycling- the massive water volume plus the kick start from the plants will keep ammonia levels pretty close to zero.
Yeah pond maintenance is like tank maintenance, including water changes.
Yes you can. However be aware it wil become large an predatory (Though I guess you know this). I used to visit and office on memorial drive that had a large pond in it that had mollies, plties and convicts living in it.
You're going to want something like the livebearers to keep the mosquitoes at bay
A new pond installation will start to develop beneficial bacteria in small quantities on its own. It will take very long to get to the population in time levels.Pond can just watch their ponds, or simple smell can tell if things are out of balance.
