Breeding Behaviors

Anyone know what teh breeding behaviors are for convicts?What are the signs that tell me if they are going to breed soon??

The females will get very colorful bellys, possibly a little aggression between the two. Might see them cleaning flat surfaces.

Okay thanks C-Man. I cant wait for them to start breeding. I got a 31g rubbermaid container all ready for the fry once they get big enough!!!!

theyll chase eachother around
"face-off" they will tip thier heads and act like thier going to charge the other but they never do
and like he said, cleaning surfaces.

but i really dont think your little one is big enough to breed

No but I do have a larger one. He is chasiing her around now. Last night I seen them chasing each other back and forth!

Well there will be no luck. The male was killed. They were going to breed but the larger female decided to get really aggressive. So for now until I get the tank more established and more familiar with cichlids then I will try to breed!

Don't sweat it man. Convicts can be really on opposite sides of the spectrum, really any cichlid is like that. They either love their mate or hate them, sometimes it just won't work. Luckily convicts are a dime a dozen and readily availible so you shouldn't have trouble finding more. Sorry to hear about the male though.

Yeah. I am planning a 20g tank for the 2 female and maybe get a male to go with them. I was wondering though(although not right place but hey Im here) can a rubberlip Pleco be fine with the?

if u get 2 females and one male, there will be a pair and the other female will be killed eventually...and a rubberlip pleco will most likely get the snot beaten out of it if the cons are a pair and getting ready to breed.

Then Male is out! I want to have a pleco in there because they are one of my favorite species but I havent had the space to keep them! A 20g would give me the space for a Rubber Lip!
