Breeding bettas

Hello i have a a pair of bettas that breed about two weeeks ago i had a snail some plants a styrophome cup i feed them baby brine shrimp i lost a lot did i do any thing wrong they were in a 10 gallon tank filled about 5 inches and i use a heater on 80 for 10 minutes to heat it up a little help would be appreciated thank you*PEACE!*

Well I dont see a problem in it. Also once your capable of telling male and female separate them fast(males from females and other males). What are the parameters?

From what you say you didn't do anything wrong. Did you leave the male betta in with the eggs?

BTW you should test ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph. You could buy a kit for that stuff at your LFS.

Well test for the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/pH. Let us know what they are. Get nmbers!

Forgot about that. The male Betta tends o the eggs until(I believe) they are free swimming. Some one correct me if Im wrong.

yes i left them in there for about three days i personally think that the snail big mastake ate them and made my tank filthy dont every do it if so a smalll one big mastake*crazysmil

Still get your water tested, give us the numbers, keep up on your water changes. Also from what I heard you will lose some the first few times breeding them.

ya i have herd it takes 3-4 breeds till there pretty good at it*thumbsup2

Yeah its just a matter of you try you fail you try again. Never give up, keep trying and you'll get it.

Nothing. I been having some major problems in my tanks and so I decided to wait a bit until I get an Eclipse 3 ad use my 10g as a leopard gecko tank!

How often were you feeding the babies? What kind of filter are you using on the fry tank? Why weren't you using microworms?

Were they free swimming when you got the male out of there?

I was feeding them frozen bbs and crushed micos no filter yes were free swimming

What does this mean? The fry need a really constant temperature at 80, so if you took the heater off or it was heating inconsistently or too quickly, that could be a cause.
