breeding tank setup

ok...im going to try and breed plecos.would it be ok to breed 2 bristlenose in a 40g tank.if so i have to empty 20g tanks that i would like to try and join together to make a 40g tank.but I'm not sure how to though.help would be appreciated

Yes, a 40G is very good for breeding BN's. Here's a link about breeding them, if you need help:

Are you saying u want to join a 20G with a 40G, or do u want to make a 40G from two 20G's?

I agree with Zman. A 40g would be good for breeding them, i bred mine in a 35g and it only took about 2 weeks from putting them together to get a spawn.

I'm not sure there is a safe way to do what you are proposing with those tanks. The pressure on the seam between the 2 may be too much for it to take, let alone what may happen if the tanks are ever bumped.

You can try breeding the 2 (1 male and 1 female) in a 20 But won't be able to have any other fish in there. Do keep an eye on them as the male may or may not allow the female to live peacefully in a tank that size. Providing lots of drift wood and caves (more than just 2) should help to curve any aggressive territorial behavior from the male.

Other than that all you need is is good food, good water quality, and a male and a female who are of age.

I would advise aginst making a 40 out of two 20's as well. There just isn't any feasable way to allow it to take the pressure.

Check around for a 40 gallon. It should be decently priced if the tank is all your looking for.

pure-it would be ok to put to bristlenose in a 20g.ive heard they would get way to big?would the other 20g be ok for the fry once the eggs hatch for few months

Well 1 BN is usually the limit for a 20. And even then the rest of the stocking should be low. This would be ideal, however to breed them a 20 should be sufficient as long as you do large enough water changes and have adequate filtration. A 20 long would be much better than a 20 high. But in a pinch both will work. An like I said you shouldn't keep any other fish in there other than the 2 plecs.
