Hey, i currently have a 38 Gal. African Cichlid tank, and the fish i have are listed in my signature. I was wondering if i have enough room left to get enough yellow labs so that i can breed them, i currently have one already!
But i really want to do this, i will eventally be getting rid of the Front when he gets too big, so i was wondering if i could do that, and about how many more yellow labs i would need to successfully get a pair!

Thanks so much!

I think what Exevious is saying is that they didn't breed in the smaller tank, but when they were moved to a bigger tank, they did.

I could be entirely wrong but this is my opinion..........I think you are fully stocked right now, if not overstocked. Most of the fish you have can get anywhere from 4-6". I have a 37gal and I can't imagine having that many fish (cichlids) in it. I have 8 cichlids in my 46gal and 3 of them are dwarf. I wouldn't put anymore fish in mine. If I were you and really wanted to breed, I would move or get rid of some of the ones you have and get 2 female yellow's to try to breed with your male.

Again this is just my opinion.

The yellow labs at our LFS always seem to breed in the display tanks, and they're pretty small. Of course, it's stressful for all the fish if some are trying to breed in overcrowded conditions. Once you have the fry, you would need another tank to raise them anyway.

Well I hope everything works out. I am also trying right now to see if my yellows will breed...wish me luck! I have 3 of them, but I think it's turning out that only 1 is female, so we'll see what happens :D

I'm not sure what it takes... beyond a nice comfortable habitat.

It just happened for me.

I would say you are not going to have much luck with that mix in a 38.
I raised mine in the smaller 37 tank.. but they were purchased at under 2 inches. And were at or past the 3inch mark at seven months, and moved to a larger tank.

You should research the compatability of that front. I dont know much about them, ive spent most of my time researching mbuna...

but not many experienced people recommend mixing cichlid types.

How long in length will the Zebra starts to spawn?

What the average size for the zebra and lab. to start spawning. Do they spawn in the caves, plate or inverted cups? Mouth breed or not?
