I am not sure but I think we have a bronze cory. It lays on its back or side and is still alive! I know it's not normal, but don't know why it is doing this, or how to help it. Today we thought it was dead because it was still layin on its side, and doesn't move around as often. But when we went to get it out with the net, it started swimming around again. We also have a red-tailed black shark. I need some information on what's going on, if anyone knows or might have an idea on what is happening or how to help the fish....could it be possible the red-tailed hurt one of the fins on the cory??????

ow. sorry to say this, but my cories used to do that before they died. *cringe* also sorry to say, i was too inexperienced at the time to know what killed them, i can't tell you what might be wrong. but my cories would do that for a day or two, then start sorta floating at the top, but would still swim away if touched, then after awhile they'd be dead.

hopefully that's not the case here. maybe, just to be sure, you could check all your tank parameters and such? have you had your cory long? if there's nothing wrong with your tank, i don't know what you could do...i think sometimes fish just get old, like people...

He's been doing this for about a week, or a little over a week. I don't believe there is anything wrong with our tank.... If he's going to die, and is suffering(do fish suffer?) should I just take care of it now, or wait for nature to take it's course....that's a horrible question, but. what more can I do. We've only had him for a little bit over a year I believe.

it's hard to say, really. too bad fish can't tell us when they're suffering, and when they're just playing around.

in your shoes, i'd give him a couple more days. if he's the same, well, let time take its course one way or the other. if he gets better, break out the champagne and the bloodworms :) if he gets worse, well...i guess you can make that decision when it comes down to it.

hope he gets better though~! :)

Dragonfly, if you can seperate it do so, raise the temp by about 2c and add one crystal of epsom salt per gallon, leave him/her in it for 24 hours and then start doing water changes with good clean water until all the epsom salts are removed.
Fingers crossed for you, I do not think it is contagious more likely to be internal parasites or as I am guessing trapped wind.
