bubblenest question

My wonderful male Betta Sushi has build a pretty big looking bubble nest, since he is near no females and i have no plans on putting him near any for the time being, would it "upset" him if the bubble nest was damaged when I change his tank. Sushi seems a moody type (he attacked anything I put with him) and i dont want him getting upset and refusing to eat or anything like that. so, would it tick him off if the bubble nest is damaged?

No, he'll be fine. It's much better to make sure he has clean water than if he's a little upset with you

He'll just build a new one anyway

alright, i wasnt sure, and with 25% weekly water changes i wasnt worried about water quality for a small fish in a big (for one Betta) tank

besides it'll give him something to do rather then just sitting around all day

Yah, go ahead and mess with it. Like others have said, he'll "enjoy" rebuilding it. Gives him something to do

i have two male bettas, but i haven't seen 'em build a bubble nest... what could be the problem?

If there's too much current in the tank, they won't build a bubble nest.

Also, sometimes they just don't feel like it. I have one now that has never built one for as long as I've had him (~2 years).

thanks.. i turned the air pump off to give them chance to build their bubblenest (if they want to).

Actually I had a male betta build a bubble nest with the air pump on. But if you really want him to build a bubblenest put half of a flatened styrofoam cup and let it float in the tank. It worked for me when I was breeding my bettas.

Wait, are your bettas in the same tank as one another? And if they are it would be amazing that there not fighting.

they are both in the same tank, but it has a divider.. since i turned the air pump off, i moved my other betta TREZ in a different tank. and now GIGI, has started building a bubble nest!!! im so happy! wish i could find a female betta though, i wanna try breeding... *BOUNCINGS

why do Bettas build bubble nests???

bettas and gourami's build bubblenest as this where the male will keep the eggs and fry safe until they are big enough to leave the nest.
