Im setting up my 30 gal brackish now and my new black sand keeps clumping into little balls. The little balls either float to the top of the water or rest on top of the unclumped sand. The clumps have tiny airbubbles on them. what do i do?

never heard of black sand before but i think it should go away after a while but the black sand doesn't really sound like it is safe for fish cause its producing so many bubbles... did you do a water change lately? did you add salt lately? cause i know aquarium salt has lots of bubbles when you put them into a fish tank but I dont know what kind of salt you use.

If it was newly put in, it probably just has trapped air. Stir it and it will stop. It shouldn't be hurting anything though. If it is indeed just air as it most likely is, how can it harm the fish? It is no different than an air stone?

Is it like a Tahition Moon Sand or something? What kind of sand was it?

Can't say my aquarium salt has ever bubbled when it's gone into the water!
