Yup... males (and sometimes females) make bubble nests that float and stick to the sides of the aquarium or anything floating in it. Means they're happy. If it gets destroyed during a water change or whatever, he'll rebuild it.

They suck up little bits of air and then spit it out... I imagine something in the saliva must make it stay as bubbles. Some other types of fish make bubble nests too, hoplo catfish being among them. If you watch your betta long enough, you should catch him doing it... it's pretty cool, he'll spit out 2-3 bubbles at a time, then go back up and suck in some more air.

I found a few bubble nests in the corner of the tank. I haven't seen anymore lately since my Betta is too busy flaring and showing off and waiting for the weekend to get his blood worms. When I have Fishy over (my sister's co-worker's betta) to clean his bowl over the weekend, he covers the top with bubbles after his water is clean.
