Big Vine mentioned getting a calvus for population control in my african paludarium thread, and i was wondering if anybody had experience with keeping calvus. i've been reading up, but want to make sure my tank would be right for one. i am worried about one going after my shell dwellers, but i really need to keep this julie fry population under control. also, can they be a solitary fish, or do they do better in groups? my water level is kept fairly low, but could easily be raised if it would enable me to add one. thoughts?

I wouldn't keep calvus with shell dwellers. Calvus are built for sucking fry out of crevices and and other tight areas, and once the calvus gets some size to it (which, granted, will take forever, lol), it will likely try to go after even the adult shellies in their shells.
