Came home last night to a disaster. Many of the fish in my 29 gal. had what appeared to be white fluffy stuff on their fins. The RTS was covered in it including on its eyes, most of his body was white.

Any suggestions . . .

P.S. the RTS died a couple hours later :(

eep - sorry for the lost fish

sounds bacterial - most of the anti-bacterial cures are good for most forms of the "disease" , and often include anit-fungal additives as the fish are prone to fungal infection when being attacked and weakened by the bacterial baddies - remember to remove any carbon in your filter - and read the packet to check it won't kill your filter bacteria

meanwhile - start changing water - i'd suggest 30% twice a week till it settles down - it may have been your water quality that started it off (unless you have recent additions to your population)

It could be bacteria or fungal. Ther is a book called "A manual of Fish Health" by Dr. Chris Andrews, Adrian Exell and Dr. Neville Carrington put out by Firefly Books that is quite good for stuff like this.

Based on your description, fish fungus sounds likely. Treat with a strong antifungal. Good luck.

White + Fluffy is typically fungus due to infection. You need to kill the fungus fast.

I use Jungle Anti-Fungus, its at most Walmarts - a little bottle that has yellow crystals in it. It also has some anti-biotic ingreadients to help fight off infections.

Again, remove your carbon filter before adminstering it.

It doesn't make much sense that all of a sudden all the fish are covered with fungus - there needs to be a reason the fungus can attach, and I agree it's likely a bacterial infection. You're just seeing the fungus

I've had a little fin fungus on some of my livebearers, usually the pregnant females or those who have just given birth. I used the Fungus Clear fizzy tabs and it worked well. In the very early stages (just a spot or two on a fish or two), Melafix worked pretty well. It does grow pretty fast.

As with all fish diseases, the sooner you start treating it, the better. It's a good idea to look over all your fish once a day to make sure everyone's healthy. :)
