Can anyone identify this HOB filter?

I decided to purchase a new 10 gallon tank. Although I wasn't going to buy a kit this time, a store called Pet Cetera was selling the tank, lid, net, thermometer and a HOB filter for $39 CDN all new. Not a bad deal so I went for it (even though I had inteded on using my spare aqua clear mini on the new tank since it was going to be in the spare room where no one would have to hear it).

I figured the power filter would be a re-branded filter made by someone else. I can't seem to identify it though. The cartridge is the same size as the whisper bio bag (I actually used a whisper bio bag in this filter instead of its native cartridge because my other filter is a whisper 10) and it sits in the filter diagnoally which is kind of strange. I compared the motor to both my aqua clear and whisper and it seems to be different from both. I took some pictures, does anyone know WHO MAKES THIS FILTER? All of the pet cetera branded fish supplies were pretty easy to spot who was really making them, except this darn filter, and the employees couldn't tell me what other filters this one was compatible with. Anyway, here are some pictures:

It does 86gph according to the documentation and amzingly enough is actually quieter then my whisper 10.

Yes that is foam behind the filter. That did not come with the filter but I cut up the AC mini foam and slide it in front of the bio bag for added filtering.

It looks kind of like a JBJ Nano filter because of the size. It looks kinda of like a cheap off brand personally. You might want to put the AquaClear on anyways.

Why would you suggest I go back to the Aqua Clear? I know you're probably right about it being a cheap off brand. It does have adjustable flow, and will take the whisper bio bag (which I have found provides excellent mechanical filtering). One thing I did was shove one of these:

in between the bio bag and where the water dumps out into the tank. It was the perfect size meaning the water HAS to go through it. Now it's providing the same kind of biological filtering as the Aqua Clear would (the foam itself is identicle in composition to the AC mini foam block) along with better (imo) mechanical filtering). 86gph should be sufficent for a 10 gallon right?

I am leary of using a no-name filter (especially since I was ready to get another whisper or try a penguin mini - money's not an object - it just happened to come with this filter). I just don't see how this could be providing less filtertation, unless it falls apart or blows up.

Do you think I'll be fine with the recent modification I've made?

I would be leary of using a filter you dont know about. Aquaclaers are pretty reliable...you never know what will happen if you go on vacation or soemthing.
