Can Bettas be part of a Community??

Hey I bought a male betta today and I wanted to know if I could put it in my tropical Community. I Have a trio of Guppies, 2 Guppies and a cherry barb in a 15gal Would it be ok if I put the Betta in there??

cherry barbs can be nippy ime so i'd worry about it nipping your bettas longfins

aslo bettas can be aggressive to other fish with bright colors and long fins so guppies with them might not be a good idea either

i wouldnt put a betta in there

Not a good idea as mentioned. Female bettas, while not as long-finned can do well in a community tank.

I wouldnt recomend it with a guppy. I know of a occasion where a betta was put with a guppy, the guppy didnt live much longer after the betta joined the tank.

Ditto, no betta/guppie mixes. Get him his own 2-5gal tank, he wil be very happy to have his own turf.

To be contrary, I have a male betta w/ three guppies and two frogs, and he's doing just fine. I also have four female bettas in a community tank with yoyo loaches, cories and ottos ... doing fine as well.

I'd say give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, you can always move/replace threatened or dead fish.
