can built in filters be removed?

hi one of my set ups is a juwel rio 180L its been running with the built in internal and an extra fluval u3 internal but i just gor my hands on a cheap brand new fluval 305 external (lucky Me)!!! i seeded it with the fluval internal and its running with the built in, i'm gonna leave it a month or so to pick up the good bacteria properly but then i want to close down the built in.
To cut a long story short has anyone ever removed one of these filters and how easy is it?

not easy to remove, but I have to ask, is there a reason why you want to remove it? I have always found extra filtration to be beneficial. Is there any reason why you need it removed?

well i just thought with a fluval 305 external running a 180L tank that would be more than enough filtration?
