Hi all - A few questions about German Blue Rams. I've been out to liveaquaria.com and looking at these little guys, so I can add a bit more to my livestock when I get my 85 Gallon set up. They say they're difficult to care for, yet are peaceful. Is this true?

How difficult are they to care for? Are they "peaceful"? Should I keep a certain ratio of male to females? Are they compatible with what you see in my profile at the bottom for my 38 gallon (barbs, sae, cories, etc)?

Any help on this would be appreciated, they a beautiful fish and I would like to add them IF I can.

Thanks in advance

They are picky about water conditions, they like soft water and aren't tolerant of nitrites at all. Yea, They are pretty peaceful, depends on the fish though. 1 male and 2 females is good to keep down aggresion in the group.

I am just recycling info by the way.

Housing rams is not tht hard. Provided with enough territories & nitrate free water they thrive well either in groups or as a pair or as a single specimen. U can buy 6 juvs in any ratio and allow natural selections to take its course.
For housing Rams soft acidic water is not tht important. I hv altum angels, angels, rams, neon tetras & glowlight tetras in a 55 gal with a pH of around 8 and hardness correspondingly way up with absolutely no prob. But for breeding u need to provide them wth soft water.
Except tiger barbs others will do good i believe. I've seen & heard tiger barbs to be fin nippers. They can easily fin-cut angels but im not sure bout rams.
Rams r pretty peaceful cichlids. Many house them in community tanks.
