A few days ago, I was looking at the fish at Petsmart (it's a habit..), and saw that they were selling Frontosa!!!!!:( I want one..but they get too big and are kinda out of my price range;). I just worry about them, because they might be bought by people who are unaware of how big they get. *thumbsdow

I still want one, hehe! *BOUNCINGS

Yeah, i saw them at the petco by my house.

My mom was with me, and she wants to switch one of her tanks to a cichlid tank...

She wanted one, and was going to put one on hold, until i told her she'd need to AT LEAST double, if not triple her tank size because they get so large.

She then saw some Kribs...and fell in love.

How big do they get?

BTW FishFriend, I've bought a lot of my fish at Petco/Petsmart and have never had a single disease. Can't say that about the some of the small lfs I've been to. :)

LOL - I find this really odd (random thing to say) one of my LFS is a huge shop, you know - with everything. A well known industry and they have horrible tnak conditions (even though there are at least 10 people working in the 'fish section' a day!). And at my other LFS which is a tiny little corner shop, sort of thing (though it's been made bigger.. so isn't vert tiny anymore) they have the most beautiful water conditions ever! No dead fish (i don't think a fish has ever died in one of their tanks before..), they have lots of room for the fish, plus the tanks are so clean you can't even see any dirt/poop in the gravel! That always confuses me.. lol
And what are these Frontosa's?

They get up to about 15.5 inches long!! If I were to get one, it'd barely have enough room to turn around, and it really wouldn't be fair to the fish (although...any pet I seem to buy stays small! )! Not every fish from Petsmart or Petco is diseased..And besdes..it's not the fish's fault to begin with! ;)
Chazwick, they look like this..Aren't they beautiful???:D

P.S- Not my photo, just one I found on the web!

get something about 100 more gallons than that tank, and you can have a very nice colony. :)

I have heard that they are out more, and seem to fair better when grown out in smaller tanks. But I would be sure to already have the large tank ready to when you buy them.

I too saw them at the lfs today and yes they are cool. I found myself staring at all the cichlid tanks there and was beginnig to toy with the notion of changing my idea from community tank to cichlid tank for the 300 g at work. Descisions desisions...
