55gal Filter ?'s

Ok i'm getting a new 55gal really soon and i can't figure out what kind of filter(s) i want on it.

This tank will be BB with discus. So i know i want to get some Hydro Sponge Filters (or something along the lines) and prob. some kind of HOB. What kind of HOB do you suggest? I need it to really work but not put tons of movement in the water. AC's are good but pretty loud IMO. But i'm open to any suggestion.

what ac do you have,i have never heard any of my ac's make any noise.what would be the point of a hydro sponge if you don't like noise,as most sponge filters are powerd by air,and a powerhead would probably be too much.just get a small canister and aim the spraybar at the back of the tank.thats just my thoughts though...

i suppose the ac 500 could be noisy,i think all large hob's are noisy,though.how about an in tank filter using an overflow and sponges?it's be a heck of a project but you could have everything you want at the sacrifice of a few inches of tank space.

A few inches wouldn't be much. I want this tank to be BB anyway. Do you have to drill for an overflow?
