carbon in sump??

im looking to possibly add carbon to my sump/fuge for extra filtration ... whats the best way to go about this?? and is it even a good idea?

Running carbon for a little while will be fine. I don't generally do so, but it will "polish" the water (so to speak). The best option is a mesh bag sold for this purpose.

yea i was looking at the bags yesterday at big al's... but im a little confused..where do i put it?? just throw it in the sump??

Yes, you can put it in a high-flow area in the sump. I started running it to help with any chemicals the corals are putting out.

I run carbon 24/7 in a bag in the sump. Carbon is a subject where people have differing opinions - I don't worry to much about removing all the 'trace elements good stuff' because compared to seawater our tanks are usually very loaded up with DOC's, and the presence of those is a real problem

what brand should i get?? i was looking yesterday and they have so many

you'd want to get high quality carbon, because i've heard that certain types of carbon will let out phosphates after a given time. that is unless you're cool with phosphates in your system.
