I have a question about tubular sea sponges. I have one- it's about three inches long, bright red, and has two holes- one on top and one on its side. Yesterday the holes were open, and it was filtering? normally. Now the holes are closed, and it looks sort of compressed. Does this mean it's dead?
Yes, it was a hitchhiker, and it's not melted away, at least not yet. I gently moved it with a fish net, and it's still securely attached to the rock, but who knows. I hope it survives- it's really a beautiful organism.
