Just recently saw a cool new product at a show in orlando. Its called vidarock. It is a highly porous ceramic reef rock designed to colonize into live rock. It looks awesome, is very affordable, comes in any size piece and should function better than the real thing. I think it is the solution to the live rock dilema

well anything you put into your tank will become "live" you just want to make sure it is inert and doesn't leach anything back into the water. Many have used a kind of cement like home made live rock that looks great and serves the purpose too.....just google it.

Ive seen the cement stuff but I understand it lacks the porosity that real beneficial to bacteria colonization
