CF Bulbs dimming

Do Compact Flourescent bulbs gradually get dimmer over time? I feel like the output on my 65w bulb isn't what it used to be...

Im sure they do as all bulbs do, but if im correct i think that ive read that the K rating in bulbs change over time. Get a new one if you can and youll prolly notice a difference if its not what youve remembered it to be.

I just got my 96w BrightKit so im so happy. Sorry this doesnt really correlate to your post but id just thought id add this.

I agree they will vary in output especially with increased heat loads on them. I have noticed mine can drop lighting after a long time of use

I had my 96 watt Brightlight (customsealife - probably the same one Depthc has). for over 2 years. (5000k bulb). As you recall from another thread I just got a replacement from aquatic store.

Well the new one is certainly much brighter than the old one before it burned out. But - my old one WAS still bright, the plants were still thriving and pearling. Manufacturers say these cf bulbs last 12-14 months.... which is technically correct - but I would try to stretch at least 2 years out of one bulb because they are costly to replace.

Lights do lose their effectiveness over time. I change out my 10000k bulbs about every six months or so. I can tell a difference after about six months. The lights will loose intensity.

Thanks for the replies, all. I have a replacement bulb handy, so I may just do a quick swap and see whether the difference is marked.
