Changing power filter

I've currently have a Regent filter on my tank, and am ready to switch to a Penguin Bio-Wheel. Do I just slam it in there? Or is there some sort of procedure?

Just set it up as per the manufacturer's instructions and let it run. The longer you can keep both filters running simultaneously, the better. You tank will go through a significant re-cycle if you take your existing filter right off, so try to leave them running together for as long as possible. A couple weeks would be ideal.

i think they take the same cartridge, check and see, cause you could just switch them and be set.i know the mini and regent 10 g use them anyway

ya, the filters were exactly the same...so the new bio-wheel is up and running solo and doing great!!

I did have both filters up and running for about 2 hours...so I opened a new filter. Should I just throw that new(-ish) one away...or can i store it in a ziplock bag till I need it?

No harm in holding onto it in case you need a replacement.
