Changing water during the nitrogen cycle

Hi All,

I'm new to the hobby. So, of course, I have questions.

Does a 25% water change during the nitrogen cycle affect the cycle at all?

Do you have fish in the tank?

If not, then don't bother changing the water.

If so, and you want to keep the fish alive, you have to change the water.

Do you have ammonia and nitrite test kits?

I agree with geoff, with a fish-in cycle you will need to do atleast 15% weekly water changes for the first, hardy fish.

Yep. I have fish in there. They have been in there for a few weeks. They seem to be okay.

Also, I have the ammonia and nitrite test kits. Ammonia = 0, Nitrites = 2.0 ppm. I just did a water change in hopes of getting the Nitrites down. It looks like it worked a bit.

Will the water change set the cycle back?

20g - 7 zebra danios, 1 rosy red
6g - trying the fishless cycle

hmm yeh if u dont have fish then leave the water, thats the purpose of letting it cycle through to do it properly and effectively

Yes it will set the cycle back. But, if I have learned anything, this hobby is all about patience.
