dropped by walmart and got a desk lamp for $10 and a fluorescent bulbs 20 watts input, 100 watt output for around $7

less then $20 bucks for a light

why r you people playing $100+ for a light set up?? not to mention the energy bill...

but MH are just the best...

it is a flourescent bulb...basically junk, that is why people pay 100+ for a set up, you get what you pay for, plus it is a desk top lamp, not UL listed safe to be around water, and you have to gerry-rig it to fit your computer.

What are you talking about, little pc's that sit in nirmal irridescent fixtures and use 20W and it says 100 watts irridescent output on the box?

Well they're good for small tanks, but while it might be the equivalent of 100 watts of irridescent output, it's still only equivalent to 20 watts of fluorescent output, but more concentrated. Plus usually in a low K range. So good for small tanks, refugia, but for big displays, don't kid yourself - if they worked every one would use them

I just got a PC bulb at lowes for my fuge. It's a 5000k 23w bulb, but I wouldn't use it for a larger tank. Once you go MH you'll never go back.

Well like they say you get what you pay for thats why HM's are sweet. still your only getting 20w output (they say it looks like 100w output) but they are good for fuge tanks.
