I went up to check out a tank at the lfs that was for sale by another customer.  Its a fantastic deal, but one little problem. First off its 230g, thats not the problem. The problem is that there is a small chip off the corner of the glass.  The lfs guy is really trustworthy and he said thats the way he actually received it the first time. The owner of the tank had it set up and running for about 6mts as a SW and is now moving so it has to go. The glass is 5/8" thick, and the chip is about the size of the tip of your pinkie finger (just the very tip, like half the size of your pinkie finger nail). What im wondering is if its gonna be safe. The guy at the LFS said you can get stuff at Kent, same as Home Depot to repair it, kinda cover it up. What do you guys think?

Where is the chip? At the very top, middle, bottom? If it is at the very top, should be ok. IN the middle or bottom, well, depends on how deep the chip goes. Might be good to ask a glass repair guy about it. Its the weakness in the glass maybe even in the joint I'd be worried about. 230G is a lot of water and pressure if the chip is in the middle or bottom. You might be ok also if you really silicon the chip again.

its near the bottom, and really seems superficial to me...i dont think its going to affect the strenght, the guy at the lfs says that the guy had it set up like it for 6mts with no problem, but i dont know how i would get a glass guy to look at it, its not like i can bring it to them....huffff....i dont know what to do..... have you heard of these repair kits...would that make it more stable???

Is the chip on the side edge or bottom edge? Hard to say! Might not be a problem especially if there is silicon there. Silicon supposedly has a high psi, something like 900psi (dont know). Thats all the really holds the tanks together anyways. Im just scared that in 3months the chip becomes a hole  .

Side edge not as bad as bottom edge. Like said, maybe give it another silicon bead on that edge and patch up the chip and hope that you have enough water damage insurance (jk). Should be fine.
