cichlid and other fish

so i was talking to my grandfather today and he told me that the LFS just got a new shipment of clown loaches and i'm in need of a catfish but the problem is i have an oscar cichlid.. what would be the best catfish to purchase and is it possible to put a clown loach 2 or in there..

in my opinion they will get to big for the 40g along with the oscar.
a pleco would do fine with the oscar though, get one that doesnt get very big like a bristlenose maybe
