what i would do is, wait till all the fish ur breeding now have their babies, then u will see how much work it will be and the sheer amount of fish you will have, then decide. dont rush into things so much

When I always hear people talk about breeding fish, breeding doesn't just include the fish spawning, but the actual raising of the fry to either adulthood or a sellable size. Many cichlids will spawn on their own with little help or effort from the keeper, so that in itself often isn't much of an accomplishment. However raising the fry and keeping them healthy can be quite a challange sometimes and is very rewarding.

wow, i feel like I don't deserve to have fish or something after reading that... :p

here i just wanted to have a tank with some fish that look cool so I can watch them. (and of course i'm trying to keep them alive)

what's the point in breeding so many fish? do you make money, or just like doing it?

Though you turn around and spend that on food and supplies and don't usually walk away with huge profits in your pocket. You can rack up some decent store credit usually.

If i breed something, i breed it to breed it so i can acctually see the parental care of cichlids and the whole process. I love it. I really don't think i ever would, or could do it for profits. If i had fry i'd most likely put them up for almost nothing so that the next person could enjoy the beauty of the fish.

I wasn't planning on breeding my jewels till i had them for a longer time, but oh well i am happy that they bred so i can watch them. This is the 1st pair of cichlids that i have ever had in my life breed and the fry survive. My GBR's bred alot but the fry never survived so i am glad that the jewels survived. And matt, i like to breed my fish for the same reason as you and to see the fry grow up.
